IMPORTANT UPDATE FOR THOSE RENEWING THIER SECURITY GUARD CARD:
The Maryland State Police Licensing Division has advised that if you are renewing your security guard certification for the first time Since Jan 1, 2025, you must take the initial 12 hour course, NOT the 8 hour renewal course. Renewals after the initial course, will be the 8 hour course. Therefore, no one should be renewing their security guard card with the 8 hour course currently.
SPECIAL POLICE TRAINING:
Recently, the Maryland legislature overturned the veto on SB 0455, This means that special police officers will now be authorized to work for a security guard company, not just for the site itself. The licensing requirements and procedures are currently under review by the Maryland State Police Licensing Division. Therefore, if you wish to sign up for this course, it is currently open for booking. Bear in mind, this course is 88 hours and must be completed. The renewal for this course is 12 hours.
DO NOT BOOK A COURSE IF:
1. You are a felon, are currently wanted, or have pending charges against you
2. You have been convicted of an offense that has a statutory penalty of more than 2 years in jail
3. You are a habitual drunkard or drug user
4. You lack ethics
5. You have been convicted in any state of felony theft or any crime of moral turpitude (burglary, etc), sexual offense of any kind, impersonation of a police officer, 1st degree assault.
6. You are in the United States illegally.
The process of obtaining a license is:
1. Take the course
2. Get fingerprinted at any livescan location (search "Livescan locations near me)
3. Complete the paperwork required on the Maryland State Police licensing portal
4. If you are requesting sponsorship for your security guard card, let us know. We will NOT sponsor special police officers. You will take your completion certificate to the agency or property that is willing to hire and credential you.
5. You may get disapproved if you fall under any of the categories shown above under "DO NOT BOOK A COURSE IF"
